Stampin' In Alaska

This week's Mo Manning digital challenge is to use layers.  I managed to put a few layers on my card using "Bye Bye". Papers are from Jillibean Soup Blossom Soup and Stampin' Up!  Stickles were added to the furry collar of the jacket.  A few prima flowers and machine stitching were added to finish the card. Good morning!  I am posting a quick card for this week's sketch challenge over on There She Goes blog.  Below is this week's sketch provided by Kim: Here is what I came up with using TSG " Scent-sational " set: I kept my card pretty CAS and colored the sweet little skunk image using Prismacolor pencils and baby oil.  This set has some really adorable "Scent-timents" to go along with the cute skunk images.  Of course, skunks are not one of my favorite animals.  But Melyssa has created a group of cute skunk images that are hard to resist! The image and sentiment were layered on Stampin' Up! Riding Hood Red, basic black and Georgia Pacific White is the base.  I added machine stitching for the base panel border. This week's Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge (SNSDC68) is to use the following photo as inspiration for our project: I chose to focus on the color combination from the inspiration photo and used this week's sketch provided by The Sweet Stop challenge (SSS173): I created my Thanksgiving card using the sketch horizontally.  I used the Sweet 'n Sassy digital image " Butterfly and Flower " to create my card below: I used card stock from Stampin' Up:  Apricot Appeal, Pumpkin Pie and Very Vanilla.  The digital image was printed twice and the butterfly was cut out and popped up for dimension.  Cinnamon Stickles was applied to the flower center.  The vanilla panels were dry embossed using Cuttlebug folders.  Machine Stitching was added to the panels and pearl stickers from Memory Box were applied. This week's challenge over on the Can You Digi It? blog is all about Numbers.   I used a couple of fun Word Art images from the "Coffee Time Word Art" set.  You can find it in the CYDI? shop HERE . I digitally layered the coffee cup image slightly over the clock/sentiment image then cut it out.  Easy Peasy!!  I am really happy with the finished results.  I then layered the digital images on an Inverted Scalloped Circle Spellbinder die.  The number cuttlebug folder was inked for the base panel.  I added a coordinating ribbon held by a clock brad to finish the card.  All cardstock is from Close to My heart Autumn Garden paper pack. This week's challenge on the Mo Manning Challenge blog is "Distressing".  I colored this sweet Mo Manning digital image called " Tom & Tilly ".  I began by using shades of brown with my Copic Markers to get a sepia effect.  At the end I colored the floral bouquet and sponged the sunset using Memento inks. Here's what I came up with: In keeping with the challenge, I distressed the image panel and inked it with Memento inks.  I also distressed the edge of the brown panel then layered on an embossed base.  I wanted to keep the base simple so as not to detract from the image. It's another week of sharing with Cheryl and all of the "Sassettes"!  It's fun to see what everyone has going on in their neck of the woods.   Check out the details on Cheryl's blog HERE and join in on the fun! DH and I just returned from a 3-day weekend in Seward, Alaska.  It was so relaxing and the weather was fabulous!  DH took his new ocean kayak and decided to give it a try while trolling for silver salmon.  He actually caught 4 fish and he grilled fresh salmon for dinner one night.  Yum!  We probably brought home between 30 - 40 pounds of salmon.  Steve packing the kayak with is helper Gingersnap Shopping in old downtown Seward Fireweed with the bay and mountains in the background Hope you are enjoying summer in your neck of the woods!  We hope to get in another fun weekend of adventure.  If the rain and snow holds out!

I'm running a little late this week with my Sassy Cheryl Challenge card.  This week's challenge is to create a Birthday themed project.  Who doesn't need an extra birthday card in their stash?! I combined Cheryl's " Sassy Sally Triple Layer Cake " image with this fun word art from TLC.  I colored with Copic Markers and cut it out with Spellbinder dies for a quick birthday card! Today the "Can You Digi It" design team is wishing a Happy Birthday to our fellow design team member Joni.  This is a mile stone birthday for her this year as she is turning 60! Here's the Birthday card that I created for Joni's big day: My card was created using an image from A Creative Need called "Adirondack Chair & Ball".  You can find this digital image in the CYDI shop HERE .  The chair was colored with Copic Markers and the beach ball removed for this layout.  The coordinating papers are from Fancy Pants Designs Beach Babe paper pad.  I added some dewdrops, baker's twine and machine stitched borders.  It's a little hard to see in the photo, but the base card was slightly distressed with Stampin' Up!  Craft White ink. I'm back tonight with another post for this week's Sweet 'n Sassy Sweet Stop Sketch challenge and Digi Challenge .  This week's Sweet Stop Sketch has a spin to use dies and/or punches.  Here's the sketch: Here's the card that I came up with: I used the Sweet 'n Sassy digital image "Isaiah 40:31" and papers from the Basic Grey Wisteria paper pad.  The digital image was die cut using Spellbinder oval nestibilities.  This week's SNSS digital challenge is to use a 3D floral embellishment.  My flower was created by punching two flowers with a MS punch and layering with a satin GKD die cut flower then a Zva pearl.  A machine stitched border and SU satin ribbon finish the card.  Thanks for stopping by to take a closer look!

A couple of months ago I was invited to join the design team for Can You Digi It?   Of course, I jumped at the opportunity and I'm having lots of fun.  The owner of CYDI, Michelle Single, let me know that she would be in my neck of the woods this summer vacationing.  Well, tonight I caught up with Michelle and her husband for a few minutes.  It's so fun to put a face with a name!!  Michelle and her husband are in Alaska for some much deserved R&R.  They are going to see parts of the state that I haven't gotten an opportunity to see in my 19 years living here!  I hope that they have a great time and come back to visit us again. This week's challenge on Mo's Challenge Blog is "Friends".  I used the new "Laptop Baby" image and created my own sentiment "Wanna Skype".  I am a long distance from all of my family and friends so we use Skype a lot! The image was colored with Copic Markers with a Sakura shimmer pen applied to the fu-fu skirt.  The papers are from MME Lime Twist.  The sentiment was computer generated and cut out with Spellbinder banner dies.  Paper flowers from Shabby Chic and a leaf stick pin finish the card. It's time again for another Sassy Cheryl Digi Challenge and this week we are asked to use our Favorite Color Combo.  My favorite combo this summer has been green, orange and yellow.  After such a long, dreary Alaskan winter these colors have seemed so bright and cheerful! Here's what I came up with using " Bella's Flower " from Sassy Cheryl: Bella was colored with Copic Markers. The designer papers are from Basic Grey's Indie Bloom paper pad.  The sentiment is a digital from the Sentiments 4 You blog.  Machine Stitching and dewdrops finish the card. This week's challenge on the Can you Digi It? blog is "Purple Please" with the following inspiration collage: I used the adorable Beetle image from PinkLily Designs " Bug & Van " set.   This was my very first time using digital papers and I think I'm hooked!  This cards uses papers from StripedElephants " Purple & Green Paper Pack ". This week's Cornish Heritage Farms challenge is Black and White with one other color of our choice.  I pulled out my Elvis Presley Series stamps and created the following card using Stampin' Up! Tempting Turquoise as my third color. It went together really fast after I got the idea.  The base is dry embossed using a Paper Studios star emboss folder.  I added three black brads and that's it.  ***** WARNING - Only Elvis Presley fans need read the remainder of this post!!****** I am a fan of Elvis' music.  My mom and dad were also fans.  I even attended a concert in my home town in June 1977 shortly before Elvis' passing.  It was something that I will always remember!  Yes, we were way up in the bleachers, but we still went to the concert and saw Elvis Presley! Oh, and my favorite (all time) Elvis movie?  Blue Hawaii, of course!  Love the songs, the costumes, the scenery, and storyline ....... So romantic AND funny!  Oka...

This week's Sassy Cheryl Challenge is "All about the Boys! ".  I had this sweet Noah and patches image on my desk ready to color.  I don't have any young boys in my family, but I'm sure that someone will enjoy this sweet little card. The image was colored with Copic Markers and paired with Basic Grey Oxford designer papers.  I used this week's sketch provided by Korin over on the Splitcoast challenge forum. This also qualifies for this week's Sweet 'n Sassy Digi Challenge "Beary Special" .  We were asked to use a digital bear image with our project for this week.

We've had lots of visitors this summer.  Last week's Show Me post got by while we were enjoying the short summer in Alaska! I'm back this week to share a few photos with my family and our trip to Portage Glacier in the Chugach National Forest south of Anchorage.  We hiked about 1 mile from the road back to a glacier. Me and my Grandma!  She's 86 years old and led the hike to the glacier! Me and DH with my aunt and cousins. Glacier cave.  Really neat! The glacier and river run off.
